Programme Overview
Are you being matched with a mentor or have been offered mentoring but are unsure what to expect? You may feel uncertain about the process, or unsure how to take an active role. Unlocking Mentoring bridges that gap for you.
Through interactive workshops, scenario-based discussions, and practical exercises, you will explore what mentoring is, how it differs from other workplace support, and how to make the most of the experience. You will learn to set clear goals, communicate openly, and take ownership of your development within a trusting, respectful relationship.
For your employers, this ensures mentoring becomes a powerful intervention for engagement, confidence, and retention. Â When you understand how to participate well, your mentoring relationships flourish, producing measurable benefits for you, your team, and the wider organisation.
Who is this programme for?

Employees new recruits, or those anticipating engaging or preparing to work with a mentor at all levels, based in York or North Yorkshire

By the end of this programme, your employees will:
- Understand the purpose, benefits and boundaries of mentoring.
- Distinguish mentoring from other workplace support approaches.
- Engage proactively with their mentor, set goals and take ownership of their personal and professional growth.
- Build trust and communicate effectively with their mentor.
- Apply the STEPS framework to their mentoring conversation (Set, Take part, Explore, Plan, Self-reflect).
