Programme Overview
The Fundamentals of Coaching Award is an recognised coaching qualification accredited by the Association for Coaching, aiming to help you develop the mindset, confidence, and practical skills needed to coach and lead transformative conversations in the workplace.
Delivered online over four modules, this award is for you or designated members of your team, who would like to train as a coach. You will learn to listen deeply, ask powerful questions, and create psychologically safe spaces for growth, challenge, and reflection.
As part of the Trailblazer Employer Support Programme, this qualification strengthens your organisational coaching capability to support those at risk of disengagement, foster trust and communication, and retain valuable talent through compassionate and flexible approaches.
Who is this programme for?
Business owners and/or employers (leaders, managers, team co-ordinators) based in York or North Yorkshire, with one or more employee(s).

By the end of the programme, you will be able to...
- Define and explain coaching - its purpose, value and process to support your workplace development.
- Distinguish coaching from other forms of workplace support, such as mentoring and counselling.
- Conduct structured coaching sessions from initial conversation to goal setting and final review, leading with a person-centred and outcome-focused approach.
- Understand and apply core coaching competencies and ethical practices within your professional context.
- Establish ethical, trusting coaching relationships that support growth and accountability.
- Integrate the Three Principles model to enhance your self-awareness, presence, wellbeing, and effectiveness as a coach.
- Demonstrate active listening, questioning, and communication skills to explore employee experience, build engagement, and enable purposeful action.
- Reflect critically on your own and others’ coaching practice, using tutor feedback to improve continuously.
- Recognise how a coaching mindset and approach supports inclusive leadership, employee engagement, wellbeing, and performance.
The programme is designed to help you lead coaching conversations that keep your team engaged and motivated, as well as help you better support colleagues from diverse backgrounds, or those on health journeys or with caring responsibilities. It will enable you to strengthen your retention approach, by offering flexible, compassionate support systems built on trust or develop your internal coaching capacity so your organisation continues to thrive long after the programme ends.
Commitment required:
- Attendance: All four online sessions
- Session dates:
Day 1: 14th July
Day 2: 10th September
Day 3: 8th October
Day 4: 5th November
- Session times: 9:30am-5:00pm
- Self-study: 17 hours (split between the four modules), approximately 4 hours after each module
- Assessment: Coaching and development log, personal coaching approach, coaching reflection and written case study.
